St Thomas à Becket Church of England (Aided) Primary School was founded in 1874 and has had many extensions and improvements since then. The latest addition was opened in February 2009 included a new entrance, offices and staff toilet plus a much needed staffroom/extra work space and disabled toilet.
The main building, once a very large room, is partitioned into two classrooms. Infant class has a mezzanine floor with a child friendly interactive whiteboard, a wet play area and a well equipped enclosed outdoor play area shared with the nursery.
The other class in the main building has a interactive white board, and is home for a laptop trolley containing new laptops.
Across the playground there is a Hall/Classroom, which has recently acquired a computer connected to projector. The room is used for Classes in the mornings, for collective worship, lunches and for Infant PE.
Behind the hall is a field that is used for games lessons and playtimes.
Our hard working Parents Association donated the permanent adventurous equipment on our field.
We share our grounds with St Thomas à Becket Nursery School and enjoy a close working relationship with its staff, children and parents.
From the foundation of the school, it has benefited from its close partnership with the Church. Our original Trust Deed is reflected nowadays in our Church of England ‘Voluntary Aided’ status, granted under the 1944 Education Act, and in the composition of the Governing body. That is laid down under statute to include eight Foundation Governors, elected by the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Education(DBE), of whom at least two must be parents. The school also benefits from the practical and financial resources provided by the DBE, in addition to those provided by the Local Education Authority (LEA), and this enhances the education offered to your children.
The last Ofsted inspection was in November 2007 and copies of that report are available from the school office or online.
The school is continuing to develop and always aspires to achieve a high standard and quality of education for all its children.
